--------------------

iVerbum 3.5.1 (build l73) --- April 4, 2009

Execute Last Command:
Some of the iVerbum special commands, such as "Capitalize" do not have shortcut keys. To avoid the tedious mouse movement for executing many such commands repetitively, the use can execute the "Edit > Last Command where "Last Command" in the Edit menu will be substituted with the last such command which always has the shortcut ⌃⌥⌘]
The following commands apply: Capitalize, Set Lower Case, Set Upper Case, Sort Lines as Ascending, Sort Lines Descending, Convert Normal to Smart Quotes, Convert Smart to Normal Quotes, Convert Paragraph Breaks to Line Breaks; Convert Line Breaks to Paragraph Breaks, Smart Conversion of Hard to Soft Returns, Strikethrough, Remove Background Color, Remove Links, Remove Table Block Formatting, Set Background Color.

Search Results Context Menu:
The Search Results Context Menu has been debugged and also changed to allow a user to open the document containing the hit directly in the default (usually native) application (e.g., Word). Note: The default application will correspond to your settings for that document type in Finder. (Get Info…)

File Tree: Changing Names and Deleting Objects:
Deleting a files or folders form the file tree or changing an item's name is now updated properly in the window if that file is currently open, even as a tab. If the item (or containing folder) was deleted, the file becomes Untitled and dirty. If there are more than one instance of that file in mutliple windows or tabs, each instance, which is now Untitled and dirty, is independent of the other instances.

Synchronize Preferences:
When creating Root folders or Index Sets, the change is immediately saved to Preferences.
OS X.4 (Tiger) now saves the user name and serial number correctly when purchasing iVerbum or when enter-in the registration number. (Previously, Tiger would test ok for the trial period but would not correctly save the registration information upon purchase. Please contact us if there are any such problems.)

Closing "all tabs":
Closing all tabs will no longer close the current window, but will close all tabs leaving the current window blank and Untitled. (Option-clicking the close icon of a tab to close all the tabs rather than that particular tab.)

Other:
Enhanced Index Set Panel behavior; fixed bug regarding renaming Index Sets with the Index Sets Popup menu; fixed bug that prevented files stored outside the File Tree to be recognized as "clean"; normalized the "undo" behavior for the Search Window; iVerbum now "quits" gracefully with the tabbed windows.

iVerbum 3.4 (build l69) --- October 13, 2008

Safari-style "Tabs" - Multiple Documents per Window:
Implementation of a "tabs" option (like Safari) so a given window can have several documents open at the same time.
    Tab Features include:
       (1) New File in either a) new window; b) new file in same window; c) new (blank) Tab in same window;
       (2) Open File in either a) new window; b) same window; c) in a new tab in same window;
       (3) Open File from File Tree with Double Click: a) in current window, or b) as tab in current window by holding the option key down.
       (4) Open Multiple Files from the File Tree in same Window: Option-double-click selected files from the File Tree: All files opened in tabs in current window.
       (5) Open Multiple Search Results in Same Window: Option-double-click selected results and they open as tabs, with the hit-highlighted in current window.
       (6) Open multiple instances of the same file in the same window, displaying different search "hits": The file itself is only loaded one time to maximize memory-management efficiency; but each tabs maintains its respective highlighting to denote search "hits".

Edit a Single File in Multiple Tabs in Multiple Windows:
Changes in files (including PDF markup) are also tracked in other instances of that same file in other tabs of the same window or in other windows.

Other:
   (1) Page Settings Panel: Fixed bug which sometimes disabled the control for footer/header options.
   (2) Implemented "Finder-style" sorting for the File Tree. (e.g. you now name files "name9, name10, name11" rather than "name09, name10, name11" and still have the proper ordering.)
   (3) Can now drag contiguous multiple selections within the "Combine File" table when the Utilities > Combine Selected Files… command is executed.

--------------------

iVerbum 3.3.1 (build l67) --- August 27, 2008

Enhanced context menu for File Tree (right-click or control-click the mouse when in the File Tree Pane) for file / folder creation and indexing of selected folders.

Contextual Menu For Document Pane:
Enhanced context menu for document pane to include features such as strikeout, background color, special editing commands, search for selections, view modes, and pane modes.

Searching a Folder Being Indexed:
Corrected a bug that sometimes froze the program if a folder was being searched while indexed.
Alerts now give the proper names of the folders being indexed rather than the name of the mapped folder.
Gives a single alert for all folders being indexed rather than multiple alerts.

Other:
Search Window Interface: Can now set the Boolean Range Mode (either Characters or Words) from the Search Window.
Shift-Command-F: The shortcut to select the Search Field (for input of search terms) will now open the Search Pane, File Tree Pane, and Search Results Pane if necessary.
Corrected a bug causing occasional problems for language encoding (Latin, Greek, or Hebrew) for viewing search results.
Corrected bug inhibiting Save / Save As… of PDF documents.

--------------------

iVerbum 3.3 (build l64) --- August 15, 2008

No Limitations on File / Folder Names:
File and folder names can now be comprised of any assortment of characters.

No Practical Limitation Regarding File Hierarchy:
Folders nested up to about 100 folders deep can be indexed and searched.

No Index Files Hidden in Data Folders:
All iVerbum indexing files are now located in "HOME/Library/iVerbum" where "HOME" stands for your home directory (e.g., "/Users/My_Name"). iVerbum indexing files are no longer placed in the data folders themselves. iVerbum has a utility command to clean out all of the old index files that were created by iVerbum 3.2 and earlier.

Greek and Hebrew:
iVerbum search results can now be displayed in Greek and Hebrew. The default search results language can be set to either Latin, Greek, or Hebrew. Specific Folders and / or files can be set to a different language than the default. These settings can also be overridden for a the active Search Window using the Search Results Encoding popup in the Search Options floating panel. The actual files are displayed as usual, of course.

Open Office (odt) and Word 2007 (docx):
iVerbum now handles Open Office and Word 2007 files for OS X.5 (Leopard).

Other improvements or fixes:
Tables can now be searched in Pages and Keynote files.
The cell expansion for multi-line search results has been eliminated. (This affected OS X.5 users only.)
A bug inhibiting auto-indexing upon start-up has been removed.
Some fixes regarding iVerbum's drag and drop operations.
File redundancy (for some types of file selection) has been removed for the "combine files" and "batch export" utilities. The "combine files…" utilities still does permit a correct type of redundancy to support instances where the user may which to include a file multiple times.

--------------------

iVerbum 3.2 (build l62) --- July 13, 2008

Pages, Keynote, & Mellel:
iVerbum now searches and indexes Pages, Keynote, & Mellel files. The files are parsed and displayed in plain text. The original documents cannot be modified, but the parsed files have the usual select & copy ability so they can be not only searched, but utilized for incorporation of research projects.

The Import Panel and the Preferences Import Pane have been updated appropriately.

Utilities > Combine Selected Files…
The combine files feature has been significantly updated, including the option to combine files in either an RTF or PDF format. RTF combo's now have the option of parsing PDFs as either RTF or plain text. The PDF format gives appropriate options for page numbering the newly-created PDF files. This update includes a table that facilitates moving / copying / deleting of the selected files. Moreover, the combined files are updated in panel, so in the rare instance of a problematic file (e.g., does not export to PDF), the problem file can be isolated and accounted for.

File Tree
File Tree manipulation and drag & drop has been enhanced; some bugs have been detected and fixed.

Export > Export As TXT…
Batch Export Files, Folders & Subfolders > As Plain Text…
Exporting as plain text has been enhanced to provide easy selection of desired encoding.

--------------------

iVerbum 3.1.1 (build l61) --- July 1, 2008 (minor update)

PDF files opened from the Finder now load into a Search Window rather than a special PDF window. The window can be set by default to load the empty (i.e., "Blank") Index Set and have all panes toggled off except for the Text Pane.

The Search Window has been modified to incorporate the Table of Contents Drawer that applies to PDF files. (The Drawer is not applicable to files other than PDF.)

Corrected parameters used for toggling the visibility of the Search Pane.

--------------------

iVerbum 3.1 (build l60) --- June 12, 2008

Export As "format"
Enhanced options for exporting the current file in another format.

Batch Export commands
Batch export selected files and folders in the file tree to multiple formats; includes an option to include all documents contained in subfolders as well.

Remove Table Formatting
Can remove table block formatting for selected text. Convenient for quickly cleaning up an html file (using tables) that has been converted to rtf or rtfd.

Remove Links
Remove links for selected text.

Transparency feature for panels
All floating panels can now be set to have their unique transparency (or conversely, opacity).

Batch Editing
Some simple batch editing can be applied to selected files and folders (with the option of including subfolders): bold, italic, underline, table removal, link removal, font, font size, text color. Command includes an archive option to zip the files first.

Some fixes
Corrected some bugs regarding exporting, file trees, and non-redundant selection of files and folders from the file tree.

--------------------

iVerbum 3.0 (build l60) --- June 12, 2008

Search Window Interface
Full control over case sensitivity and the context (e.g., whole word) from the search window.

Case Sensitivity
Now has four modes: Case sensitive / insensitive; first-letter sensitive / insensitive.

Context
Now has four modes: Contains, whole word, begins with, ends with.

Boolean
Now has three modes: Boolean AND, Boolean OR, and boolean AND NOT

Search Again
Search again in three modes: The standard (or OR) mode will apply search anywhere in the files that contain hits; the AND mode will search in those files within the specified range from the previous hits; the AND NOT mode will search in those files and register hits only if they are not within the specified range from the previous hits.

String Search
String Search greatly enhanced in interface and performance: Exact searches for expressions; the shortcomings regarding the Glimpse search engine for single words have been overcome by allowing the user to add words to an exclusion table so practically any string can be searched. Optional color coding in the Search Field for string searches so as not to confuse them with regular Boolean searches; the Search Field now displays the string "as is" after the search instead of inserting special boolean characters. Exclusion floating panel with its own set of features has also be introduced.

Other File Extensions
Other file extensions for loading into iVerbum can now be entered in the appropriate table in Preferences.

PDF
PDF markup and performance is greatly enhanced.

Other
Miscellaneous debugging and general improvement of code and stability.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.3.2 (build l56) --- December 10, 2007

Search Results Table
The default is now to mark all the search terms (rather than the primary one) which appear in the listing of Search Results. These terms can be marked clearly with the color defined by the user in Preferences as well as displayed with a bold typeface. Previous versions only marked the primary term. This change is long overdue; I was afraid of performance issues but there is no problem unless there are many search results (like thousands). The user still has the option choose to mark only the primary search term; simply click the "Mark 1 Word Only in Results" check box in the Search Pane in Preferences. The user can set both the File Tree Outline and the Search Results Outline to alternate row background colors (or not). Set these defaults in the Fonts Pane in Preferences. The user can also set the default for marking the search terms which appear in the Search Results to have a bold typeface. This setting is also found in the Fonts Pane in Preferences.

Save / Open Index Sets
Collections of Index Sets can be saved to disk from the Index Sets Panel. Prior to versions 2.3.2, the extension was a generic ".dict" extension. (It stands for a "dictionary" file.) That imprudent generic description has been eliminated and the files are now labeled as ".iVerbum". However, you can still read in files with a ".dict" extension for backwards compatibility. Also, iVerbum now remembers the directory where you last stored such a file to make file navigation easier.

Displaying Panels
The panels have an additional display feature in addition to the "Open All Panels" and "Close All Panels" commands found in the Window menu. The new command is "Open Last Set of Panels" which is found in the same menu. This command is very convenient since you typically may use two or three panels which are off to the corner. Now with a stroke of the shortcut key, you can improve your the screen real estate by hiding those panels, and then with another stroke of a shortcut key show only those panels of interest without cluttering the screen with the unwanted panels.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.3.1 (build l54) --- November 27, 2007

Displaying Search Results:
Sample Strings of search results continue to be displayed with a collapsible outline in which the file name is displayed followed by the Sample Strings as sub-items.
User can now display the Sample Strings as either: (1) One long line which can be horizontally scrolled; (2) wrapped text which which cannot be horizontally scrolled and which can be set to be between one and five lines inclusively. The default can be set with a popup menu in Preferences in the Search Pane; this setting for the active Search Window can be set using the Search Settings floating panel. The formatting of the outline panel has been slightly modified to make the file name and the search result itself more readable. (i.e., display of the file name, the full path of the file name, and the search term in the sample text.)

Floating Panels and the user workspace
iVerbum can now remember the size and positions of the Floating Panels upon closing. This option can be set in with the Remember Open Panels checkbox in the View pane in Preferences.

Other
Shortcut keys for Preferences and for the New Index Set Sheet that can be opened from the popup menu in the Find Document window. Setting File Properties and their defaults works better in both Preferences (in the Text Pane) and the File Properties Panel.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.3.0 (build l53) --- November 6, 2007

Export as DOC / HTML / TXT / Webarchive
Native format is still RTF / RTFD; but the active file can be exported to the above formats. Note that DOC files often have additional information (like equations, etc.) which is not read by programs like TextEdit. So if you export to DOC, don't replace the DOC file if it was created in Word unless you are sure that the information you see with iVerbum is complete.

Combine Selected Files in File Tree
Select files (or folders with files) in the File Tree and iVerbum will create a composite file taking account of formatting The original files are not deleted or changed. PDF files are handled as plain text. The formatting works very well in general; although there may be some problems if files have significantly different page settings which are carried over. But it seems to be working well and if you have a problem, just drop an email.

Print Selection
Simple but useful feature to print only the selected text; has associated shortcut key.

Highlighting
Set default Highlight Color in Preferences, then markup selected Text with "Format > Font > Set Background" which has an associated shortcut key. Applying the command to highlighted text will remove the highlight. Remove Background command will remove all background colors for selected text. Can suppress printing of Background Text Highlights in the Page Setup Dialog box: Settings (popup) > iVerbum.

Multiple Copy
Multiple Copy feature implemented for the regular Pasteboard (cut , copy, etc.). "Edit > Add to Pasteboard" (with associated shortcut key) adds the selected text (with formatting) to the pasteboard without first clearing it (as in the case of "copy"). This feature is powerful; should work well for many data-collection needs associated with searches; and the resulting pasteboard data can be pasted to other applications. Reduced the number of "Multiple Copy Buffers" from four to one. I rarely use more than 2; now that the regular Pasteboard has multiple-copy functionality, its probably not necessary to clutter up the menus with these commands. Please email if you need these additional buffers.

Other fixes / improvements
Now waits instead of crashing if you are indexing folders when quitting iVerbum. Should be saving the Page Size correctly now. Option-clicking an Index Set within the Index Sets Panel opens a new window with the clicked Index Set, but does not "mark" that Set to be added to the Index Set Popup Menu for a New Search Window. Opening a file in a "Blank Window" now color-codes the Index Sets in the Popup menu which contain the loaded file. Improvements in behavior of Header / Footer information associated with the Page Numbering (Page Settings Panel). Renaming files in the File Tree now handles .doc and other extensions better. An "opened file" is no longer "marked" as if it was a found search result.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.2.0 (build l51) --- August 9, 2007

Searching for a "String" of Text
This search is limited by the search engine (Glimpse) which may not index extremely common words (like "the") for large folders. iVerbum will now notify you when there are indeed search results for such a folder even these results are not shown (and 0 results are reported) since such common words have not been indexed for the folder. A work-around for this defect may be possible; but for now the user is warned and can modify the search accordingly.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.2.0 (build l50) --- July 26, 2007

Search for a "String" of Text
The first "hit" was not marked in the File Tree; this has been corrected. Clicking the "Bool Search" / "String Results" button will not only toggle the table of Search Results; but will also now correctly mark the hits in the File Tree, collapse the File Tree, and expand to show the new files with the hits. Corrected a bug for finding strings of text near the end of the file.

Collapsing / Expanding File Tree when searching
Can now set iVerbum to collapse the File Tree prior to each new search (see Preferences -> Search Pane). The File Tree will expand to show all the hits from the search.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.2.0 (build l48) --- July 24, 2007

Indexing Folders
Can now delete a folder in queue for being indexed without crashing iVerbum.

Saving PDF Files
Auxiliary files are automatically created and the appropriate folders are marked as needing to be indexed (for the new PDF files to be searched).

Go To Page Panel
Reworked code that sometimes produced a crash when iVerbum updated the Go To Page Panel. (The crash usually occurred when quitting iVerbum.) If there is still any problem, please email: support@iverbum.com

Launching iVerbum
Fixed a problem where iVerbum would sometimes fail to locate its search and indexing engines in the cases when (1) the iVerbum application was moved into a different folder on the hard drive or was renamed; (2) other applications were being launched when iVerbum was launched.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.2.0 (build l45) --- July 16, 2007

Loading Files from Search Results
Corrected code that delayed the loading of (especially large) files

--------------------

iVerbum 2.2 (build l44) --- July 12, 2007

PDF
More options for PDF viewing; PDF markup supported for Links, Text, Lines, Rectangles, Ellipses, etc. Note that as of now there the Line cannot be styled (thick, etc.) PDF now works well with the Go To Page panel.

Searching
Search for Literal Strings is now supported; can also toggle to view more (the Boolean) results without performing another search. Option to copy the search results to a text file that is automatically loaded in a new iVerbum window.

"BLANK" Index Set in the File Tree
Can open files in new windows without loading an Index Set. The "BLANK" set is loaded, although the usual Index Sets are accessible via the popup menu above the file tree. This feature facilitates opening a file (or an empty window) very quickly since Index Sets do not have to load up. For example, double-click on a couple of files in the file tree when the "command" key is pressed; the files will quickly open up in windows with "BLANK" Index Sets. If you held the "shift" key instead, they would open up in windows with the same active Index Set as the current window. File -> New File -> In Blank Window (⌃⇧⌘N) will open a new window with a "BLANK" Index Set. Preferences (under the View Pane) gives the option to open files from the Finder without an Index Set (that is, with a "BLANK" set).

Increased Drag & Drop Capability

Strikethrough
Format -> Font -> Strikethrough gives convenient editing capability with the stroke of a key (⌃⌘S); color and style can be set in preferences

Make Soft Returns
Files (like many from the web) with hard returns after each line can be converted to having soft returns instead (as long as two returns constitute a new paragraph).

Instant PDF Creation
Can create PDF's with the stroke of a key (see File Menu); options in Preferences for auto-naming and automatically loading in same window; corrected bugs.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.1.7 (build l43) --- February 17, 2007

Screen View
Screen View mode has been reworked to be cleaner with better performance. (Although text layout in this mode is not as efficient as in the other modes, especially Simple View)

Printing PDF files
Can now change paper size (Page Setup…) when printing PDF files.

Go To Page panel behavior
Cleaner clearing or loading of table when switching closing or switching document windows; improved behavior for the controls (the stepper, 'go to page' button, and table).

Can set default Document View in Preferences for new search windows
(1) All panes (normal iVerbum search panes); (2) text pane only (convenient when using iVerbum in its capacity as a word processor); or (3) file tree pane (along with the text pane). Of course, the viewing modes can easily be toggled with the shortcut commands found in the View menu.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.1.7 (build l40) --- January 1, 2007

Fixed bug related to closing windows
User now prompted to save, cancel, or close dirty 'Untitled' windows.

--------------------

iVerbum 2.1.6 (build l30) --- November 10, 2006

Enhanced Auto-Indexing
Can automatically update index upon loading a root folder either by command or by dragging from the Finder

Cleaner indexing in the background
Improved loading of default edit conditions such as spacing and tabs

Improved operation of floating windows
Pages (margins, page numbers), edit Features (spacing, tabs, etc.)

Enhanced Archiving
Can now update existing archives (.zip files) so as to quickly modify a very large archive when only a small fraction is modified (or added to).
